Children’s circus CIRC BONBONI
Cultural Center in Dahab, Egypt

This little beautiful town is located on the Egyptian Sinai peninsula directly on the Red Sea.

Life in Dahab is characterized by the many different nationalities that live there. The children of Egyptians and Bedouins play on the beach with children from mixed marriages and European children. They grow up with a strong connection to the natural world around them. When school starts, there are often individual needs or interests for some sort of hobby, and in Dahab the possibilities are very limited.

The Children’s Circus CIRC BONBONI
Three years ago, three Swiss mothers, all of us married to Egyptian men in Dahab, started the CIRC BONBONI. We had the support of a Swiss primary school teacher who had circus experience. Our circus project would not have been possible without the generous help of many friends who volunteered their time and energy.
Every year during three months about 40 children take part in the workshops music, dance, stage set construction, theater, acrobatics, juggling and fire tricks. The reward and crowning glory are the four circus performances in April, where our little artists can proudly present what they have learned to their audience.

The financial situation
The material and financial resources of the CIRC BONBONI are very limited. We are masters at improvising and making things ourselves, but the available funds never cover the costs.

Difficult and time-consuming is the constant search for storage space and rehearsal and work rooms.

The Cultural Center, Bonboni-Land
We are very active besides our circus work. It is our dream to create a financially self-supporting cultural center in Dahab. Our circus would have its home there, and in addition there would be a center for courses and activities on a regular basis all around the year.

The process of finding a financially feasible and practical location is well underway. In order to purchase the land however, we are in need of financial support.
